International Christian Choir Competition

Excelsia College in Sydney is thrilled to present the first International Christian Choir Competition, an online event that celebrates the tradition of singing in harmony. Joining other esteemed international choirs, participants will have the opportunity to showcase their talents and passion before a panel of judges, including composer and William Byrd Fellow, Antony Pitts. This event celebrates both classic and contemporary sacred compositions, all deeply rooted in Christian themes and texts. Aspire to win the William Byrd Prize of $10,000 (AUD). Join us online, and seize the chance to shine, connect with fellow enthusiasts, and inspire in a joyful virtual gathering of choral musicians.

To enter the competition, the choir must sing two musical items, as follows:
1. A hymn setting of ‘There is a green hill far away’ with music by Antony Pitts
• scored for mixed voices:

Performances of the hymn must be unaccompanied, and may be performed at a different pitch from the score. The performance will be judged by the composer, Antony Pitts.

2) A freely chosen piece of music
• minimum duration of music: 3 minutes
• maximum duration of video: 6 minutes
• unaccompanied (no instruments)
• can be any genre or period
• must have a Christian text (in any language) or Christian theme
