In the footsteps of Schubert

September 4, 2025 by Piroska Horváth Leave a Comment

Franz Schubert was a true Viennese – he was born, lived and worked in the city. No wonder that there are so many things in Vienna commemorating this great composer – including our choir competition and festival. 🙂 But what if we told you that the 34th International Franz Schubert Choir Competition and Festival honours Schubert in another way as well?

On March 26, 1828, Schubert gave his first and only public concert in one of the concert halls of Die Geschellschaft der Musikfreunde in Wien (Society of Friends of Music in Vienna), who are also the patrons behind the foundation of one of the main venues of our upcoming festival!
So, by joining us between March 13 and 17, 2026, you can walk and sing in the halls of the same association that have once hosted the music of Franz Schubert, performed by the great composer himself.
