Based on Psalm 27, the simple rhythmic texture of this piece makes for an accessible work for many ensembles. A straightforward harmonic palette is used to introduce the text in the first verse. A fuller sonority is reserved for the text “In times of trouble he shall hide me.”
Michael John Trotta is a composer, conductor, and clinician regularly accepting commissions and conducting engagements throughout the country. As an educator, he has held positions at the middle school, high school, and university levels. As a composer he is published with Colla Voce Inc., GIA Publications, Kjos Music Company, MorningStar and Carl Fischer Publications. He holds a Bachelor of Music (Music Education) and a Master of Music (Choral Conducting) from Rowan University where he studied with Dr. Z. Randall Stroope. He currently serves as Associate Director of Choral Stuides at Oklahoma State University where he is also Assistant Professor of Choral Music Education. Prior to his appointment at OSU, he conducted the Chamber Singers and served as the director of the Tiger Glee Club at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he will complete his Doctorate of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting this spring.
