This is a setting of the humorous poem by Norma Farber (1909-1984) which tells the story of how the creatures in the sea managed to convey
the news of the event at Bethlehem, even though handicapped by immobility on land. Originally for SA divisi, I have recently transposed it for
male choir, where it works beautifully in B-flat, highest note tenor G. It is only moderately challenging.
The work was conceived for boychoir, composed in Canberra Australia in March 1982, and first sung the following December by the Radcliffe Choral Society under Beverly Taylor, and since then dozens of times in concert by the girls choirs of my close colleague Klaus Lyngbye, music director of historic Søllerød Kirke near Copenhagen. It has always been much appreciated by audiences. Both directors have included in on CDs. Its text invites a little choreography, perhaps an opportunity still waiting.
All my works are written into Sibelius, so professionally printed scores are available by PDF transmission, or printed copies, each transaction
tailored to the clients’ needs. Please have a look at my ChoralNet page for a list of available works.
