ACDA Colleagues,
The MENC and several universities are teaming up to hold a symposium on the history of music teaching and learning in Chattanooga, Tennessee, next June 2-4. This includes the history of choirs.
Email me for a brochure or view this site: www.GCSU.edu/srig. The brochure includes the Call for Papers, the deadline, a description of the varied music included (brass band, sacred harp, boys choir), promise of a free moon pie, registration papers, and hotel details. No doubt, the free moon pie will motivate many a reluctant scholar.
The Symposium is now co-sponsored by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, the University of Mississippi, the MENC History SRIG, and the Music Educators National Conference/NAME. The speaker will be Charles R. Wilson, Kelly Gene Cook, Sr. Chair of History and Professor of Southern Studies at the University of Mississippi.
The scope and type of papers encouraged is best understood by examining the highly successful program assembled in 2007 at Keokuk II, archived at: http://www2.gcsu.edu/srig/page5/page5.html.
We maintain a belief in the power of careful scholarship to inform and to enhance music education. We hope you will join us in bringing scholars of the choir and other areas together.
Sincerely,
William R. Lee
