Congratulations to Nova Scotia conductor and music educator Heather Fraser who has been selected to be the Conducting Fellow for the Canadian Chamber Choir’s upcoming tour of Newfoundland. The CCC will visit Newfoundland for the first time from Sept 24 to Oct 4, 2015.
The Canadian Chamber Choir’s Conducting Fellow Program offers emerging or established Canadian choral conductors a unique opportunity to hone their skills through the preparation and rehearsal of challenging repertoire under the leadership of CCC Artistic Director Dr. Julia Davids. Conductors benefit from advanced in-depth training and immersion in a professional music-making environment while on tour for one week with the CCC.
Ms. Fraser earned degrees from Acadia and McGill Universities and is currently Artistic Director and Conductor of the Annapolis Valley Honour Choirs and the Halifax Regional School Board’s All City High School Honour Choir. Previous conducting engagements include other Halifax All City ensembles, resident conductor of the Nova Scotia Youth Choir, Concerto Della Donna (Montreal), and the Thomas’s Preparatory School Choirs and Choral Society (London, UK). She has also prepared choirs for Symphony Nova Scotia, including a recording project with the Children’s Chorus of Nova Scotia with SNS and CBC.
As a clinician, Heather has presented for the Nova Scotia Music Educator’s Association, the Nova Scotia Choral Federation and has adjudicated for the New Brunswick Competitive Music Festival. She is active with the “Perform NS! – Artists in Residence Program,” conducting workshops across Nova Scotia on choral methods for both students and teachers, and initiating and developing the “Singing Schools” program for Junior High schools without choral programs.
