Fundraiser to honor and celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Dr. Anne Matlack
as Artistic Director. The event, titled “The Artistry of Anne Matlack:
Celebrating 25 Years of Visionary Leadership,” takes place 5:00 p.m. –
8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2013 at the Westin Governor Morris, 2 Whippany

The Visionary Leadership gala features a celebrity guest appearance by New
York composer and Western Wind Vocal Ensemble baritone, Elliot Z. Levine.
Dr. Matlack and Levine will lead a discussion on the importance of
commissioning new works for choruses. Harmonium commissioned Levine in
1996 to compose its first major choral work, “The Cantata of the Animals,”
and the choir will perform Levine’s “There is No Fear,” “The Serpent,” and
an arrangement of “Shalom Aleichem” during the gala event.
In addition, guests at the event will have an opportunity to bid on
valuable silent auction items, including vacation resorts in Steamboat
Springs (Colo.), Sugarbush (Vt.) and Brandywine Valley, (Penn.). Other
items include hot air balloon rides, Metropolitan Opera tickets, golf
outings, photography portraits, theater, music lessons, gift baskets, and

Throughout the years, Dr. Matlack’s passion for musical excellence and
innovative programming has led Harmonium to become one of the finest
choral arts organizations in New Jersey. The 100-member chorus and its
select 30-voice Chamber Singers are made up of committed volunteers from
northern New Jersey and surrounding areas.
In addition to her work with Harmonium, Dr. Matlack is
organist/choirmaster at Grace Episcopal Church in Madison, N.J., where she
directs a full program of children and adult choirs and a concert series,
Grace Community Music. Dr. Matlack has served the Eastern Division of the
American Choral Directors Association as Repertoire and Standards Chair
for Community Choirs. She is active as an adjudicator and clinician. She
has taught at Kean University, Lafayette College, and conducted the Yale
University Freshman Chorus. Her conducting teachers have included Fenno
Heath, Elmer Thomas and Earl Rivers, and workshops with Robert Shaw and
Eric Ericson. She studied organ with Charles Krigbaum, Michael Schneider,
and David Mulbury. She has sung in the Robert Shaw Festival Chorus at
Carnegie Hall and with the Yale Alumni Chorus at the Kremlin in Moscow.
She is a past recipient of the Arts Council of the Morris Area’s
Outstanding Professional in the Arts award and served on the board of the
Madison Arts and Culture Alliance, for whom she developed the Holiday Arts
Festival.
