Greater New Haven Community Chorus Invites New Members to Sing in its Fiftieth Anniversary 2013 – 2014 Concert Season (New Haven, CT)

July 3, 2013 by Dennis Burke Leave a Comment

Greater New Haven Community Chorus, a non-auditioned, four part (SATB) chorus is currently inviting singers to join its choral group for the 2013 – 2014 season.  Rehearsals begin on Thursday, August 22.  Prospective members are invited to attend three rehearsals as guests before committing to join the chorus.  This provides an opportunity for interested singers to meet the chorus and Noah Blocker-Glynn, Artistic Director, and to see if GNHCC provides an appealing atmosphere. The Fall enrollment period is August 22 – September 5, 2013.  Prospective singers may visit any rehearsal during this period.  Rehearsals are held every Thursday from 7:30 to 10:00 p.m. in downtown New Haven.  Information about location, parking, registration fees, and repertoire for the upcoming season can be found at www.gnhcc.org.

To fulfill our mission of achieving the highest possible standard of choral music performed by a non-auditioned chorus, singers must be able to attend and actively participate in weekly rehearsals.  In addition, members are always encouraged to share their individual skills and talents with the various GNHCC committees.

GNHCC, founded in 1963 will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary during the 2013 – 2014 concert season, and will perform three major concerts: a 50th Anniversary concert in November, a Holiday concert in December, and a Spring Concert in early June.  In addition, various community performances may be scheduled prior to the major concerts.

The 50th Anniversary Concert in November will feature a commissioned work by award winning Connecticut composer Joshua Hummel.  The piece will celebrate the rich history of the Greater New Haven Community Chorus.
GNHCC will also perform a piece arranged by Robert Tomasulo, a fast-rising composer, orchestrator and arranger which will bring Broadway to life for its 50th Anniversary Celebration.

The Holiday Concert in December will feature seasonal favorites, including select choruses from Handel’s Messiah and traditional carols.  The Chorus is currently planning extensive collaboration with the Connecticut Men’s Choral Ensemble of the award-winning Connecticut Children’s Chorus, along with guest instrumentalists and youth musicians from the region.

Greater New Haven Community Chorus is a non-auditioned chorus of approximately 100 voices which draws its membership from throughout the greater New Haven area.  GNHCC strives to embrace the wide diversity of the community and is committed to making quality music accessible and approachable for audiences and members alike.  Greater New Haven Community Chorus was founded in 1963 as a venture in community singing and continues to perform with pride and distinction.
