Glenview Church New Adult Choir Director Shares Vision

August 14, 2015 by Lenore Dupuis Leave a Comment

Guillermo Muñoz Küster has joined Glenview Community Church (GCC) as the Director of Adult Choirs.

“I look forward to joining the music ministry at Glenview Community Church. GCC has a rich musical tradition and places great value in the musical contributions to the ministry. I am excited about the opportunity to work with the chancel choir and Gary Wendt, our Minister of Music, to continue bringing great, meaningful music to the worship services.”

“What a joy it is to welcome Guillermo to the music ministry of Glenview Community Church!  And how blessed we are by Guillermo’s great talent and deep devotion as a conduit for God’s great love through music,” states Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Charles E. Mize.

A native of Santiago, Chile, Guillermo earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Classical Guitar and Voice from Lebanon Valley College (Annville, PA) and a Master of Music degree in Conducting and Classical Guitar from the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University where he studied with conductors Robert Harris and Stephen Alltop and classical guitarist Anne Waller. Muñoz Küster brings with him a diverse set of skills as a choral and orchestral conductor, classical guitarist, and singer.

For the last three seasons, Muñoz Küster has been Assistant Conductor of the Apollo Chorus of Chicago, where he has conducted the choir on live TV appearances and concert performances.  Prior to serving Assistant Conductor with Apollo, he served as the first-ever conducting apprentice in the chorus’ near 150-year history.  Mr. Muñoz Küster also performs with Music of the Baroque, the Grant Park Symphony Chorus, and has worked and performed with choruses and orchestras around the country as a guest conductor or ensemble member.

Prior to coming to GCC, Muñoz Küster directed music at Countryside Church in Palatine, held positions at Winnetka Congregational Church and Northwestern University, and founded and directed the Millar Kammerorchester, a 40-member chamber orchestra based in Evanston.

“A Choir Retreat at Glenview Community Church, Saturday, August 29, 9:00–11:30 a.m., welcomes existing and interested new members to look at music planned for the fall and check in with our new director,” states Minister of Music and Organist Gary Wendt.

The Adult Chancel Choir of Glenview Community Church practices Thursday evenings, 7:30-9:15 p.m. and offers its musical gifts in worship at the Sunday 10:00 am services and other special occasions. Thursday, September 3 is the first season rehearsal.
