Gifts of song: Jackson Choral Society to debut at concert

JACKSON, TN — West Tennessee is filled with talented singers,
and now those of the choral variety have the opportunity to
exercise their gift in Jackson’s new community choir, the Jackson
Choral Society.

The group, which has been rehearsing since January, will hold
its debut concert at 7 p.m. April 15 at First Baptist Church, 1627
N. Highland Ave., in Jackson. The concert centerpiece is John
Rutter’s “Magnificat,” featuring parts for chorus and
orchestra.

“It’s just a vibrant, exciting work,” Darian Krimm, Jackson
Choral Society’s conductor and director of music, said. “It’s a lot
of fun to listen to; it’s fun to sing. At times it’s just
unbelievably beautiful, at times it’s really quite rhythmic and
engaging and exciting.”

Krimm said the composition is intriguing for vocalists and
listeners because there is a constant back and forth, both vocally
and instrumentally, within the piece.
