FREEPORT, THE BAHAMAS — As the Grand Bahama Youth Choir gears
up to celebrate its second anniversary, the organization announced
that it will be launching a junior arm and will begin auditions
today.
Students ages 7-12 will have the chance to try out for one of
35-40 spots, director Kevin Tomlinson explained.
The auditions will be held after school until Wednesday,
February 9 at the choir’s headquarters on the Freeport Bible Church
premises on West Atlantic Drive.
The Choir meanwhile will host its anniversary concert on
February 27 at the Radisson Our Lucaya Resort at 6 p.m.
Speaking to the success of the choir over the last two years,
Tomlinson pointed out that the organization now has its own
practice space, a website, uniforms for members and is presently
planning its spring trip to the United States.
He recalled being asked in 2009 by the then Parliamentary
Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, Katherine
Forbes-Smith, to put together a choir to perform at the opening of
the Local Government Conference, which was being held in Grand
Bahama the next May.
