Leg Lamp Productions announces the release of its latest video from the Burbank Chorale, From Russia With Love. This April 27, 2013 concert was recorded at 1st United Methodist Church in Burbank, CA. The video recording exhibits the choir sans orchestra or featured soloists. Accompanied by only pianist Anna Krendel in the first half of the show, and in the second half with violinist Svetlana Ziver and percussionist Simon Carroll, the Burbank Chorale performs at its essence – pure choral music. Just as Porsche sports cars are best known for their few creature comforts but exhilarating driving performance, the chorale delivers the same kind of experience for the listener.
The first half is highlighted by several dark but intensely spiritual Russian language pieces from Shostakovich, Rachmaninov, Starvinsky, and other Russian artists that show the chorale at its pitch-perfect best. As a Porsche is a blast to drive in sharp turns on mountain roads, the concert’s second half is just as fun and lively with several English language pieces with either Russian themes or compositions by Americans of Russian extraction. The second half is highlighted by a rowdy rendition of the 007 James Bond inspired movie theme song From Russia with Love. The second half is also rounded out by an equally fun choral medley from Fiddler on the Roof as well as a joyous salute to Irving Berlin‘s America. The raucously enjoyable finale makes you look forward to the chorale’s upcoming Christmas concert. From Russia With Love is a must watch video!
The video itself features rehearsal and performance photos that have pan and zoom effects ala Ken Burns to provide a more intimate glimpse of various members of the group. The video also features wonderful 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound. And like a Porsche, it goes 0-60 minutes in no time! It’s a great video, so give it a spin!
