From Folk Lament to Symphonic-Choral Tribute: Santa Bárbara Bendita

March 27, 2026 by Juan Carlos Casimiro Leave a Comment

Santa Bárbara Bendita is my tribute to the mine, to Asturias, and to a shared cultural memory.

In this symphonic-choral project, I sought to transform one of the most powerful songs of our tradition into a larger form for orchestra, mixed choir, and miners’ choir, while preserving the truth and emotional weight of the original material.

More than an arrangement, this was for me a question of artistic responsibility: how can music rooted in lived experience, dignity, and collective memory be expanded without losing its human depth?

I am sharing this video with the ChoralNet community in the hope that it may resonate with those interested in choral expression, memory, and community-based musical creation.
