Follow the Drinking Gourd
Dear Directors: As we end Black History Month again, I want to share a recording of this and a link to Colla Voce Music. “Follow the Drinking Gourd” was written in 2006 for The Texes Voices, Allan Dyer Director, for their concert “Walk Together, Children” This is a folk song of the Under Ground Railroad. It is scored for SATB choir a cappella. There is a chance for some ad lib singing and the cluster chords at the end could represent a train whistle to Freedom. Hope you enjoy this.
