Recording services and making them available to download via the internet is a new departure for us. We believe our webcast on 28th June 2011 was the first by a British cathedral and we plan to add another in October 2011 with the possibility of more frequent ones after that. Our hope is that people will be able to share in our services from wherever they are in Cornwall, the UK or further afield at a time that suits them.
From the choir’s point of view, it is important to say that we have approached webcasting quite differently from the live radio broadcasting and CD recording which we undertake regularly. Our priority has been to capture the spirit of some of the six services at which we perform each week during term time. We felt it was important to retain the ‘live’ feel of our worship so we have not edited out imperfections as we might have done for a recording. Nor have we had additional rehearsals as we would for radio and television broadcasts. For webcasts, our 18 boy choristers have their usual morning rehearsal before assembly, work their full school day and then rehearse with our 12 gentlemen, as they do on most weekdays, at 5.00 pm for our 5.30 pm service.
We hope you will enjoy these snapshots of the regular worship which lies at the heart of Truro Cathedral’s identity.
