Finding Hope in Wilmington

February 14, 2011 by Richard Allen Roe Leave a Comment

The sense of individual caring and sharing among students is
what impresses David Beck most.

The Wilmington High School choir director says he has seen
suffering on their faces.

“Many have been personally affected by this (economic crisis),”
he said. “Still, I see them share and come together in a meaningful
way, just like the community does.”

Beck’s choir performed on Washington Street in downtown
Wilmington during Glenn Beck’s Dec. 15 appearance at the Murphy
Theatre. For the concert’s “big finish,” he took the melody from
the Nat King Cole hit “Love” and changed the lyrics to reflect
hope.

“H … is for the help we give to you,

“O … one day bad times will pass, it’s true,

“P … the people that will stand still and see us through,

“E … is everyone we give all our time and love to.

“Hope is what we will not lose today!” the choir sang.

“As people see that Wilmington is not a ghost town and that we
care for each other, maybe people will put trust in our town,” Beck
said.
