TALLINN, ESTONIA — Conductor Ingrid Kõrvts and her youth
choir enjoyed a good showing at the 10th annual choral music award
ceremony at the Estonia Concert Hall on January 30.
Kõrvits received the best conductor award, and the Tallinn
Secondary School of Music youth choir was selected as Choir of the
Year.
The Gustav Ernesaks memorial grants, named after Estonia’s
greatest mid-20th century choral music figure, were also handed
out, and conductor Tõnu Kaljuste received the main grant, worth
2,100 euros, ETV reported.
Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir conductor Kaljuste’s
accomplishments last year included organizing series of events
devoted to the 75th birthday of composer Arvo Pärt and the 80th
birthday of Veljo Tormis.
