Sounds of Stow Chorus and Orchestra continues its 47th season on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Littleton High School with the New England premiere of Christopher Tin’s To Shiver the Sky.
In the composer’s words, “This is the story of flight: of humanity’s quest to break the bonds of earth, challenge the heavens, and take our rightful place among the stars.”
Drawing on texts from a wide range of historical sources, To Shiver the Sky weaves a compelling narrative through music that is by turns exhilarating, haunting, awe-inspiring, and triumphant. The libretto spans centuries of thought, from Ovid and Dante to Leonardo da Vinci and Amelia Earhart, culminating in John F. Kennedy’s 1962 speech, “We Choose to Go to the Moon.”
These themes feel especially resonant as we follow the next chapter of the Artemis missions to the Moon. The work will be performed in its original languages, with English supertitles provided. The performance will be enhanced by striking projected imagery, including astrophotography by Marsha Wilcox and video by Dan Barstow, much of it drawn from Dan’s work with the International Space Station.
Featured soloists include tenor Omar Najmi and soprano Aurora Martin, who also will perform arias celebrating both earthly and celestial beauty.
The concert will take place at Littleton High School (56 King Street, Littleton, MA), which offers ample free parking close to the entrance. In celebration of school vacation week, children under 18 accompanied by an adult will be admitted free.
