Dr. Clayton Parr receives Marshall Bartholomew Award from IMC

Dr. Clayton Parr, Director of Choral Activities at DePaul University’s School of Music, has been announced as the recipient of the Marshall Bartholomew Award at the 2010 National Seminar of Intercollegiate Men’s Choruses, Inc. at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.  The Bartholomew Award, established in memory of the legendary conductor of the Yale Glee Club upon his death in 1978, recognizes and honors extraordinary contributions to the male choral art.  Previous recipients include Jameson Marvin, Alice Parker, Simon Carrington, Bruce McInnes and Jerry Blackstone.  Parr has served IMC as President and is currently the organization’s Executive Secretary.  He has served ACDA in a number of capacities, including as National Chair of Repertoire and Standards for Male Choirs.  Parr has done extensive research on music from the Republic of Georgia, bringing a great deal of Georgian choral literature to the attention of the choral world.  He spent the 2005-06 academic year as a Fulbright scholar at the Sarajishvili State Conservatoire in Tbilisi, Georgia. 

 

Intercollegiate Men’s Choruses, Inc. is a national service organization for men’s choirs of all levels established in 1914 in collaboration with the University Glee Club in New York City.  In addition to holding biennial National Seminars, IMC maintains a library of unpublished works for men’s chorus, commissions new music and works to promote and preserve the art of male chorus singing.  For more information, visit www.imci.us.
