Death of Boniface Mganga

July 5, 2011 by Ben Allaway Leave a Comment

Boniface Mganga, founder and director of the Muungano National Choir of Kenya, died July 4th, 2011 after injuries suffered in a car accident. He was a leading figure in African choral music, with many arrangements published by earthsongs, and an acclaimed recording of Missa Luba  on the Philips label.  Active also in politics in Kenya, Boniface had been a Member of Parliament in recent years, and was running for governor of his home province at the time of the accident.  No further details are available at this time.  Watch for further notices of how the global choral community might offer our condolences and support to the Mganga family, members of Muungano, and the Kenyan choral community.
