CONSTELLATION OPENS CALL FOR COMPOSERS

Now in its eighth year, the NOVA concert series was founded on Constellation’s mission of expanding the repertoire for men’s choral music while providing a distinct experience for audiences exploring an evening of new sounds surrounding a theme. This program has successfully premiered works by more than 3 dozen American composers and serves as a growing platform of new music for men’s voices. In addition, Constellation started their Community Uplift Partnership alongside NOVA to raise funds and make an impactful donation to a local non-profit organization that is essential to a facet of Chicago. This year, CME is proud to partner with Care For Friends, providing critical resources of food, housing, and healthcare to Chicagoans in need.

The theme of this year’s NOVA concert is “chicago seasons”. For our 8th NOVA series, we are looking to commission 8 works exploring themes inspired by the city’s ever-changing landscape—summers at the lake, city street fairs, and the pulse of Chicago’s dynamic community, completing this program of an evening of world-premiere music for tenor and bass voices.

CME invites all interested composers and artists to apply for their annual New Music Series: NOVA. We seek to commission 8 5-minute works to premiere at our concerts on June 7 & 8, 2025 in Chicago. Invited composers will receive time to workshop their piece with the ensemble**, a premiere performance recording, and a small honorarium.

Composers must either submit a completed work scored for male voices, or one that represents their compositional style in order to be selected. The submission is NOT your entry, rather just a representation of your work in order to be considered for commissioning. Please upload a copy of the score in PDF format. Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit a recording along with the submitted score, but are not required to do so. Specific questions can be directed to
