Since taking the helm of ACDA's flagship with the August 1999 issue, Carroll Gonzo has navigated the Journal through an enormous series of changes. The publication has grown by every conceivable measure: it is vastly more comprehensive and well-written, holds greater impact for industry partners, is longer and more colorful, and reaches a larger audience than ever before. The most recent developments include the Journal's inclusion in an expanding number of research databases, electronic publication in multiple formats, and repeated awards recognizing the publication's art and layout.
"Carroll Gonzo, a gentleman of unimpeachable erudition, is someone I admire greatly," said Stephen Town, a member of the CJ Editorial Board "I will miss his immeasurable contributions to the meetings of the Editorial Board, where he displayed a calm and professional demeanor, and to the Choral Journal, which reflected his skills as an author, editor, and researcher."
Between 1970 and 1999, the average tenure of a Choral Journal editor was less than three years. Carroll Gonzo's fourteen years of continual service exceeds that of all other editors, including founding Editor R. Wayne Hugoboom (CJ Editor 1959-1970).
"His service to ACDA and the entire choral profession cannot possibly be overstated," said Tim Sharp, ACDA's Executive Director. "We are all better today as a result of the dedication, insight and care Carroll demonstrated during his fourteen-year stewardship of the Choral Journal."
