HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — Orange County Schools on Tuesday named Cedar Ridge High School choral director Christopher Hansen as the school district’s 2011-12 Teacher of the Year.
“There are so many outstanding teachers at Cedar Ridge and throughout the district. I truly humbled and honored,” Hansen said in a statement. “We all constantly strive for excellence in our craft, and to have my efforts recognized by my peers is wonderful.”
Kristie Mabry, a teacher at A.L. Stanback Middle School, and Rachel Roberson, a teacher at Cameron Park Elementary School, were the other finalists for the award.
“Chris Hansen exemplifies class, professionalism and excellence in the classroom,” Cedar Ridge High Principal John Wheeler said in a statement. “Mr. Hansen routinely inspires his students to greatness, both in and out of his classroom, as he awakens the natural curiosity of his students.”
Hansen, who has worked at Cedar Ridge High since 2003, will compete against eight other teachers for Piedmont-Triad Central Region Teacher of the Year.
