Chorus a bridge to love for Oak Park couple

January 19, 2011 by Richard Allen Roe Leave a Comment

OAK PARK, IL — It’s unlikely that Yvonne and Rich Brode’s
paths would have crossed outside of the Community Renewal Chorus.

Just over 40 years ago, Oak Park/River Forest composer Harriet
Zieganhals founded a unique vocal group, the Community Renewal
Chorus and its companion children’s choir, All God’s Children.

At a time of massive community change in Chicago and its
suburbs, Zieganhals created the chorus to help people welcome
cultural diversity using the universal language of song.

Over the next four decades, the chorus toured the Chicago area,
the nation and the world, fulfilling its mission to promote
equality, peace and justice through music. In the process, it has
touched the hearts of audiences around the world, and transformed
the lives of many chorus members.I
