Listen to this……Going Beyond Words, one of the longest running choral programs in the country invites you to hear an hour of music with Coro Cervantes from England. Directed by Carlos Aransay, Coro Cervantes is the only Choral Ensemble in the UK dedicated to the classical choral music of the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America.
You will hear many folk songs of the Iberian area plus two very challenging choral works by Antón García Abril who just celebrated his 80th Birthday last February. One is a tearing at the heart love song for 15 parts called Cantar De Soledades.
The feature work Cántico de “La Pietá”. The work was inspired by Michelango’s Pieta in Rome. The Cello represents the Son, The Soprano represents the Mother Mary, and the organ gives it a spirituality, which is also supported by the Strings. The Choir mostly has a role similar to the chorus in a Greek Tragedy, commenting on what is being said by the Characters. The text Says, “He was a child like any other child, His Body was like a petal, His forehead like an almond, with a Smile of Honey. Hope! Hope and Justice! And Mercy, Mercy!”
This award winning choral program, Going Beyond Words, can be streamed this Sunday, June 16th at Noon Central Daylight Time by going to KVNO.ORG and click on “Listen”. Join host Stan Schmidt like many around the world do each Sunday.
