Vancouver’s renowned Chor Leoni Men’s Choir and Artistic Director Erick Lichte are proud to announce their 2014/2015 season, featuring 14 performances across the Lower Mainland.
Their 22nd annual Remembrance Day production, A Great Service (Nov 8 & 11), focuses on the unsung acts of wartime compassion between soldiers, as witnessed by author Robert Service. Well-known actor Christopher Gaze joins the choir as guest reader for these traditional concerts. In December the choir will present the Canadian premiere of Peter Rothstein’s fully staged theatrical production, All is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914 at the Vancouver Playhouse (Dec 19 – 21). Chor Leoni and professional actors will tell the true story of the miraculous Christmas Truce in the words and songs of the men who lived it. In March the choir hosts their inaugural VanMan Choral Summit (March 7) at the Chan Centre, featuring performances from Chor Leoni, the Chor Leoni MYVoice choirs, British Columbia Boys Choir, UBC Men’s Choir, Vancouver Men’s Chorus, and Seattle’s Illumni Men’s Chorale – over 300+ men singing together. New commissions will be premiered at The Dream We Carry (April 18 & 19). Highlights include a major work by ?riks Ešenvalds on texts by Leonard Cohen, and new works by Jocelyn Morlock and Imant Raminsch. The “singing lions” end their season with Manely Canadian (June 22 & 29) at Bard on the Beach (June 22 & 29). This traditionally fun show will feature music from this great land we call home.
Chor Leoni will also host their annual At Home fundraiser (Sept 23), sing “live to air” for CBC’s Food Bank Day, perform with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Elektra Women’s Choir (Feb 21 & 22), and reprise their wildly successful Chor Leoni Idol fundraiser (May 12).
“The goal for this year’s season was not to put together a series of exceptional concerts but instead to create some real choral events which will engage our community and delight our audience,” says Artistic Director Erick Lichte. “We are very proud of this year’s diverse offerings and of the myriad ways Chor Leoni will reach beyond the foot lights and provide transformative musical experiences for our incredibly supportive patrons.”
