MUSCLE SHOALS – Standing alongside a piano inside FAME Recording
Studios, Hackleburg High School choir director Judy Miller reached
over and pressed a key.
With that, her students, who had formed a semicircle Thursday
facing a pair of microphones, made sure their voices were in
harmony.
Miller then signaled to them and they started precisely on cue,
belting out a strong rendition of the National Anthem.
Some three weeks after a tornado ripped their town and school
apart, the high school choir didn’t miss a beat, despite only 30
minutes of practice in the weeks since the deadly April 27 storms.
Senior Wynn Knowles said it’s comforting to have the group together
singing again.
“This is something that holds us together,” Knowles said. “It’s
been pretty crazy, but is almost normal now these days. Things are
settling down.
“Getting back into a normal routine has really helped. The
teachers have just been making it great for us.”
