Charles Bruffy and the Kansas City Chorale – Life and Breath: Choral Works by René Clausen

May 30, 2012 by David Topping Leave a Comment

An album of choral music by American composer and conductor René Clausen (director of the Concordia Choir of Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota), featuring the Kansas City Chorale conducted by Charles Bruffy, is being released by Chandos Records (http://chandos.net/details06.asp?CNumber=CHSA%205105). The recording is titled “Life and Breath,” and features the premiere recording of Clausen’s new Mass for Double Choir.

It is available for pre-order on iTunes (http://itunes.apple.com/us/preorder/life-breath-choral-works-by/id527687951), on Amazon UK (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007WB5CGW), the CD on US Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007WB5CGW), and Amazon MP3 (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0083VIO4M). The official US release date of the CD is June 26th, while the digital download versions will be available sooner, on June 5th.

The album has already received a glowing pre-release review on SA-CD.net (as the disc is a SACD hybrid, with both surround and conventional audio tracks), here: http://www.sa-cd.net/showtitle/7974

Here’s concert recording of the Kansas City Chorale singing Clausen’s popular “Set Me as a Seal”

Disclaimer: as a member of Charle’s Bruffy’s Phoenix Chorale, I was invited to participate in this recording (on the Mass for Double Choir and O Vos Omnes), so although I may not be impartial, I can strongly recommend this disc. 🙂
