ST CATHERINE’S, ON — His music may not be on their iPod
playlists, but excitement about Kenny Rogers may just reach fever
pitch at Laura Secord Secondary School.
That’s because, in a matter of weeks, members of the school’s
concert choir will share the stage with the world-renowned country
music legend.
Conducted by their music teacher David Sisler, the choir will
perform a medley of Christmas songs at Kenny Rogers’ Dec. 3.
concert Toronto’s Massey Hall.
The invitation to perform with Rogers came less than two
weeks ago when a representative from Massy Hall contacted Sisler, a
Prime Minister’s Award winner, with the opportunity.
How did one of Toronto’s most well known performing arts
venues come to know about a school choir from St. Catharines?
Laura Secord’s concert choir performed at Massey Hall in April
2010 as part of the Pink Floyd Classic Albums Live performance of
The Wall, said Sisler.
“Somebody at Massey Hall heard us and suggested us for this
one,” he said.
