NORMAN — Oklahoma members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are inviting members of other faiths to join them in celebrating the upcoming Christmas season by participating in a choral performance.
The concert, “Joy to the World: A Musical Christmas Celebration,” is a choral and orchestra concert to be performed Dec. 20 and 21 at the Rose State Performing Arts Theater in Midwest City. Dr. Cory Evans, Utah State University director of choral activities, is serving as this year’s guest conductor.
Rehearsals begin Sept. 8 and continue weekly through the performance week in December. Participants must register and attend most practices at one of two church locations in Norman and Moore.
Joint rehearsals will be announced as needed. During performance week, several joint rehearsals will be hosted together with guest conductor Evans.

Tickets, $10, will be available in mid-September from joytotheworld2013.com. This is a volunteer performance, with all choir, orchestra and directors donating time and energy. The ticket charge will cover expenses for the nonprofit event.
This is the second annual Joy to the World concert hosted by the Church in central Oklahoma. Hundreds attended two performances on Dec. 22 last year at the Oklahoma City Civic Center Music Hall. Dr. Craig Jessop, former Mormon Tabernacle Choir director, served as the guest conductor.
