Bob Chilcott: ‘The Rose in the Middle of Winter’ CD launch

The Rose in the Middle of Winter – Launch concert St John The Evangelist Church, Iffley Road, Oxford, UK  Saturday 30th November 2013, 7:30pm

Commotio is delighted to be presenting a launch concert for The Rose in the Middle of Winter, a CD of Christmas choral music by Bob Chilcott, released on Naxos. Recorded in Keble College Chapel, Oxford, The Rose in the Middle of Winter features some of Chilcott’s most beautiful settings of poems by Charles Bennett, including the title track. New instrumental settings of some of Bob Chilcott’s popular carols compliment premiere recordings.

Commotio is one of Oxford’s foremost chamber choirs, formed in August 1999 to provide a refreshing alternative to the more readily available repertoire offered by most other choral groups, performing primarily lesser known material of the 20th and 21st centuries. Matthew Berry, the founder and conductor of the choir, enthusiastically promotes the work of a younger generation of composers, as well as bringing to the fore little-known works of more established writers. The concert will feature performances of several a capella pieces from the new disc, with Bob Chilcott in attendance. Commotio will also perform Christmas pieces from its previous recordings. In its traditional fashion, the choir would like to invite you to celebrate with a canapé reception after the concert.

Entrance for the concert and reception is free, with a retiring collection. So that we can accommodate numbers, please contact:
to confirm your attendance.
