This setting of a powerful poem by Julie I Myers has a resonance in today’s troubled world. It is written for SATB choir with a soaring soprano solo part, and is beautifully performed here by Matthew Curtis. The sheet music is now available on the SwirlyMusic.org website: www.swirlymusic.org/music/choral-mu…oprano-soloist/. Will shortly be available also on Sheet Music Plus,
The piece lasts just over two minutes. Here is the text:

BEYOND GRIEF by J. I. Myers

Beyond grief
beyond anger
beyond feeling
there is a place of quietness

I choose to enter this oblivion
rather than falling into despair

There are no words here
My soul can breathe
My mind finds rest

And some day
sometime
beyond the hurt
beyond the lost dreams
beyond the nothingness
I will step out and sing again
