Bach – 1725 St. John Passion – UNT Collegium Singers – Richard Sparks

December 2, 2017 by Richard Sparks Leave a Comment

At long last, our performance of the 1725 version of the Bach St.John Passion is on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJYs7k_JTx0&t=2457s

It involves our UNT Collegium Singers and the Baroque Orchestra. Guests include Steven Soph (UNT alum) as the Evangelist and Stephen Morscheck (UNT faculty) as Jesus. All arias and the roles of Peter and Pilate are sung by members of the choir. I’m proud of the depth of vocal ability and musicianship in this choir! The orchestra, playing on period instruments, is made up of UNT students led by faculty members Cynthia Roberts (violin), Allan Whear (cello) and Brad Bennight (organ), along with guest oboists Carolyn Giassi and David Dickey, both graduates of the Juilliard early music program.
