Announcing the Establishment of the “Stanley M. Hoffman Special Collection” at the Berklee College of Music Library Archives

January 18, 2025 by Stanley M. Hoffman Leave a Comment

I am honored and humbled to announce the establishment of the “Stanley M. Hoffman Special Collection” at the Berklee College of Music Library Archives. The college purchased the first of my three alma maters—the Boston Conservatory of Music—some years ago, so my life and work have truly come full circle.

The collection will include all of my unpublished sheet music both physically and digitally including dozens of my choral compositions and arrangements, my handwritten early music manuscripts and sketches, and photographs and correspondence related to my life and music. The agreement even includes a contingency clause covering titles that might go out-of-print at my three music publishers needing to be sent to them.

I delivered the containers of my physical archives to the library on 15 January 2025. They also have the bulk of my digital archive which I shared with them via Google Drive. It will take whatever time is necessary for the archive to catalog my collection and make it available to the public.

For your information, the Berklee Archives are located in the Stan Getz Library, Room 297, located at 150 Massachusetts Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts, 02215; telephone 617-747-8001; email ; website [https://archives.berklee.edu/](https://archives.berklee.edu/); social media http://berkleearchives.tumbler.com. Their hours are 10 AM–4 PM Monday–Friday by appointment.

My deepest gratitude goes out to Ashley Gray and Jenée Force of the Berklee College of Music Library. None of this would be possible without their efforts.

I cannot think of a composer/arranger alive who does not wish for a permanent home for their life’s work where people from around the world can have access to it. That mine was picked by my top library of choice, and given the names of music luminaries that I see in their special collection, their decision to include my collection leaves me otherwise speechless.
