The UNT University Singrers and Concert Orchestra performance of Allan Bevan’s Nou goth sonne under wode from a recent concert is now on YouTube:
This is a terrific piece, premiered by Richard Sparks (who conducts this performance) with Pro Coro Canada in 2005.
It’s a four-movement work, a meditation on the Crucifixion. The first two movements are in Middle English, the first a scene with Mary at the cross. The third movement is a setting of the Kyrie, the last begins with O vos omnes, then a Christe and Alleluia.
It is written for narrator, soprano soloist (Mary), chorus and orchestra (2 oboes, 2 horns, harp, timpani, percussion, organ and strings).
Well worth getting to know and performing!
