A Question for Mendelssohn Experts

January 29, 2026 by Forrest Sherrill 1 Comment

I recently came across an anthem with tune attributed to Mendelssohn but can’t find anything by that title in a listing of his works.  The title is “Before the Ending of the Day” from the Latin text “Te Lucis Ante Terminum”.  Can any of you identify the music of his that this text is set to?  I would like to arrange this for men’s choir.  Here’s a link to the YouTube performance.  Thanks.  Forrest Sherrill
