For 30+ years, VocalEssence has held a series of Young People’s Concerts in conjunction with their annual WITNESS program, which uplifts the voices, stories, and accomplishments of the Black experience and the contributions to our shared heritage. Each year, they collaborate with artists and ensembles from the African diaspora for a shared concert experience and a year-long school program, highlighted by a roster of Teaching Artists from the Black community.
This year, because of the pandemic, they are not able to have students attend the concert in person. So, they decided to go nationwide and host a FREE livestreamed concert on Friday, March 4 at 10 am CST. They welcome Jason Max Ferdinand and the Aeolians of Oakwood University, who will join with the VocalEssence Singers Of This Age, an intentional diverse community youth choir, and Teaching Artists for this 55 minute concert experience created with students of all ages in mind. The concert will also be available on demand on our website for students and teachers to watch later, in case they are not able to tune in to the livestream.
