Cara Bernard, Kelly Bylica, and Rhonda S. Hackworth have been named to the Editorial Board for the International Journal of Research in Choral Singing. Their terms will be January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2030.
The International Journal of Research in Choral Singing is a publication of the American Choral Directors Association. This journal welcomes studies that apply rigorous, systematically-grounded methodologies, either quantitative or qualitative, to investigate phenomena of potential interest to all who sing in, work with, or are otherwise interested in choral ensembles. The journal encourages research-based understandings that promote mutually informative conversation among scientific, artistic, and pedagogical orientations to choir singing. The International Journal of Research in Choral Singing publishes one volume annually, with articles added as they are accepted throughout the year.
Cara Bernard is Associate Professor of Music Education at the University of Connecticut, where she teaches courses in choral and elementary methods and curriculum. Prior to her appointment, she was the director-conductor of the Count Me In program at Carnegie Hall, where she designed and implemented a choral curriculum for beginning-level middle school music students. Additionally, she worked with the Young People’s Chorus of New York City™ to bring a choral experience to over 1,000 children throughout the city. Cara’s research areas include music teacher evaluation, policy, curriculum, and social justice, and she is co-author of the book Navigating Teacher Evaluation: A Guide for Music Teachers, published by Oxford University Press, and is currently President of Connecticut ACDA.
Kelly Bylica serves as Assistant Professor of Music Education at Boston University (USA) where she teaches in both the undergraduate and graduate programs. Originally from Chicago, Kelly taught middle school choral and general music and has served on the teaching faculty of several community-based youth choral programs in both Canada and the United States. Kelly’s research agenda is focused on curriculum and policy, critical pedagogy, and middle school musical experiences. She has presented and published on these and other topics both nationally and internationally. Kelly holds a PhD in music education from The University of Western Ontario.
Rhonda S. Hackworth is Associate Professor of Music, head of Music Education, and Graduate Program Coordinator at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, MS. She teaches graduate-level music education courses and directs student research for theses and dissertations. She earned an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in music education & education at the University of Missouri- Kansas City Conservatory of Music. Dr. Hackworth’s primary research interest is vocal health for music teachers and college students. She has published articles in Journal of Research in Music Education, International Journal of Music Education, Journal of Music Teacher Education, UPDATE: Applications of Research in Music Education, and Missouri Journal of Research in Music Education. Dr. Hackworth actively presents at international, national, regional, and state conferences.
