How to Grade a Concert Performance

December 18, 2022 by Adam Paltrowitz Leave a Comment

Your students can grade their own concert performance!

When I want to keep things simple (and teacher-led), I grade my concerts on a 4 point system:

– 1 point for being on time
– 1 point for being dressed appropriately
– 1 point for being focused and engaged while performing
– 1 point for being focused and engaged when not performing (back stage, in the audience, warm-ups, etc)

When my focus is on student growth, I teach my students to self-assess their concert performance.

Self-assessing a concert performance is more than just looking back after a concert and reflecting.

Using this approach there is growth that occurs before, during, and after the concert!

I hope, after reading this blog post, you gain some new ideas that can benefit your students and your choral program!

Here is my blog post
