Total Choral Recall: J. S. Bach Magnificat & Vivaldi Gloria

July 10, 2019 by ACDA Leave a Comment

This week on Going Beyond Words and ACDA Radio/ChoralNet, host Stan Schmidt brings back a broadcast he did in June 2013. This broadcast is part of a series called Total Choral Recall, which allows the listener to hear complete works of masters of music history.

On this show you will hear two classics: the Bach Magnificat and Vivaldi’s Gloria for mixed chorus. There is an extensive introduction about the two pieces, so you will not see the history here but can hear it on the program.  The Magnificat for Soli, Choir and Orchestra and Bassos Continue, BWV 243 by Johann Sebastian Bach features Christina Landshamer, soprano; Diana Haller, mezzo-soprano; Maarten Engeltjes, countertenor; Maximilian Schmitt, tenor; and Konstantin Wolff, bass; along with the Bayerischen Rundfunks of Köln, with Peter Dijkstra on the podium.

For the Vivaldi Gloria, the artists include Lynda Russell, soprano; Gillian Fisher, soprano; Alison Browner, alto; Ian Partridge, tenor; and Michael George, bass. They are backed by The Sixteen and the Symphony of Harmony and Invention, with Harry Christophers in charge. Two classics to enjoy.  Just click on link and gather in the wonderful sounds of genius.

Please note that this program is not listed on the website.

For a look at the CDs used and a complete list of music heard, go to the blog of WWW.GOINGBEYONDWORDS.COM website and click on show 9001.
