Welcome to Spring and some Love Songs

After all the music of the Lenten Season and the Celebrations of Passover and Easter Host Stan Schmidt  reaches into his bag of CD’s delivers and an hour of songs that Welcome the Spring with several Love Songs.  The Artists on this program include the Choral Scholars of the University College of Dublin, The Helsinki Chamber Choir, two wonderful love song by American Composer John Duke, The voice of Anne Sofie Von Otter, the well known group from England The King’s Singers, Three special Love songs on Classical themes from a 1959 LP featuring the Norman Luboff Choir and we will also hear from the fabulous voice of Dawn Upshaw. The Program commences with Desmond Earley’s Arrangement of the Londonderry Air (Danny Boy) which has been the theme of Going Beyond Words for over 25 years, that from the Dublin Choir.  Composer John Dukes Love Songs I Carry your Heart and The Bird are given a scholarly  reading by Tenor James Taylor.   Then four choral rarities from the Grand Duchy of Finland are offered by the Helsinki Chamber Choir; He Who Waits; Spring Morning; Welcome here Little Birds and The Maiden is in the Ring Now.  Then we taste music from the Norman Luboff Choir and their LP called Reverie, And This is My Beloved from the show “Kismet” based on Borodin’s String Quartet #2 followed by a theme from Brahms Symphony #1titled Your Kiss and a great Rubinstein Romance Melody comes out as If You Are But a Dream.   Sofie Von Otter connects with Elvis Costello as we hear a sultry arrangement of Don’t Talk Put Your Head on my shoulder.  The King’s Singers present two Love Songs, I Love My Love and Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered.   A wonderful love song by Kurt Weill and Ira Gershwin blends into your listening with the voice of Dawn Upshaw…Do you remember My Ship?  The show comes to its conclusion a fun Irish tune called The One Horned Cow……Hope you can listen.
