Reflecting on the Past and the Future (All Saints Day)

This week on GBW and ACDA Radio/ChoralNet host Stan Schmidt presents a way to tell a musical story and the subject is All Saints Day, another way to look at programming.   You will recall two selections from Brahms German Requiem using the English translation by Robert Shaw plus a 1878 publication of O Heiland, reiss die Himmel auf by Brahm. Then Psalm 27 by John Rutter.   Two American Spirituals sung as duets by Nicole Cabell and Alyson Cambridge assisted by the Lake Forest Symphony.   The main thrust will come from Cantata 26 by Johann Sebastian Bach which discusses the fact that life is short and fleeting and somewhat empty and an eye must be kept on a heavenly future.
