This week on GBW and ACDA Radio/ChoralNet host Stan Schmidt helps you experience a Mendelssohn Recital which includes a Prayer for Peace; five anthems for the seasons of the church year; Six Lieder from Op41 from a CD reviewed in the August edition of the Choral Journal; A Lenten exposure of a Suplication motet; Two unfinished Oratorios and a setting of Psalm 98 Op 91. You will hear great sounds from the following ensembles: Kammerchor Stuttgart with Frieder Bernius, The Corydon Sings with Matthew Best, The RIAS Kammerchor with Marcus Creed, Laurence Equilbey conducts the Accentus Chorus and Ensemble Orchestral de Paris and the Chamber Choir of Europe with Nicol Matt…….The two unfinished Oratorios were published posthumously with the first performance in 1852. Even though they are unfinished they have received hundreds of performances as they exist….you know them as Christus I and Christus II. Take a good listen to the Lieder and as you do so grab your August ACDA Journal and read the fine review by Nelly Matova who teaches at Urbana Ill at the University.
Nicol Matt’s treatment of Psalm 98 gives a complete picture of this recital from his recording on the Brilliant Classics label of the Complete Psalm Cantata….All this music is there for You…Enjoy and recall or hear it for the first ime.
