This week on GBW and ACDA Radio/ChoralNet, Host Stan Schmidt invites you to a visit with British Composer John Rutter and lets you hear three selection never heard on Going Beyond Words.
About 1984 I received a call from my friend John Rutter. He said that he has just developed his own record company (Collegium Records) to help promote his choir the Cambridge Singers. He ask if my wife and I would help him market the group in the United States…Three days later we committed ourselves to what turned out to be a twenty-two year working relationship with this gifted man. What I learned made me a better musician, business person and give me insight into one of the world’s great composers. On this visit you will hear several selections that you might know and then we will study three compositions that in the 25 years of this program, have not been aired by your host. The Choirs involved are The Nordic Chamber Choir with Nicol Matt; The King’s College Choir of Cambridge and the Cambridge Singers. The three works are “Veni Sancte Spiritus” for the Stephen Cleobury and King’s College, a meaningful selection written in the memory of Don Hinshaw, Rutter’s American Publisher titled “Cantus” and a piece that salutes just how music moves us to draw, to soothe and to uplift called “Music Dei Donum”. All this by a man that continues to work hard creating and helping new Composers that ask questions. Take time to share his gifts on Going Beyond Words.
