Two weeks out from Easter Sunday and all the Celebratory music Host Stan Schmidt brings you an hour of secular music on ACDA Radio and ChoralNet with the Theme ….From Winter to Spring Summer Romance. We begin with Farewell to Winter and The Awakening Spring by Danish composer Peter Heise….Then the Danish National Radio Choir under Stefan Parkman dresses the table with Spring by Edvard Grieg and , April by Sven S. Schulz…..
The eight voice ensemble from Finland known as Lumen Valo sing three great charts from British Composers..Music, When Soft Voices Die, My Spirit Sang All Day and My Love Dwelt in A Northern Land. Then a chance to hear music from Per Nørgård Frühlings-lied (Spring Song) with a rhythmic contemporary feel and you will say, play it again….just take your mouse and move it back. Another treat is the music of American Composer Joan Szymko called Wild Geese for Female Voices and instruments. Also, a great song by John McGlynn who sings and plays guitar on a tune called If All She Has Is You that has a great punch line…….then to end the visit we hear one of the great A Cappella classics by Richard Strauss. Scored for sixteen voices parts SSSSAAAATTTTBBBB Der Abend The Evening will leave you breathless and perhaps with tears in you eyes. It rates right up there with his famous Deutsche Motette. Keep this on file for your choral students to study…Let them listen with a score.
