This week on the ACDA Network Radio and ChoralNet, Stan Schmidt, Host of Going Beyond Words, offers you an easy way to celebrate the festival of Easter. During the broadcast, you can enjoy several hymns and spirituals, a Cherubic Hymn from Finland, Music from Handel’s Messiah and a short cantata by Johann Sebastian Bach written for the Third Sunday of Easter. The theme of this Broadcast is The Morning Trumpet. First up is the Wells Jubilate written by John Rutter to celebrate the restoration of Wells Cathedral. One of the very strong Church Music Programs in the Country is at First Plymouth Congregational Church in Lincoln, Nebraska. There musicians offer In This is Gladness arr. by Daniel Kallman and Jesus Christ is Risen today. Mack Wilberg lead the men of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in an unaccompanied setting of B.F. White’s well known spiritual The Morning Trumpet. Cappella Romana sings Cherubic Hymn #4 by Mikko Sidoroff born in 1985. They have an interesting CD of Finnish Orthodox Music that is worth the search. Other selections include two African American spirituals with an arrangement by Dan Forrest, and a selection from the Elmer Iseler Singers of Canada.
Finally, there is a special performance of BWV 103 by JS Bach written in 1725 to celebrate the third Sunday of Easter, performed at St. Thomas Church in Leipzig. Rudolf Lutz leads the J.S. Bach-Stiftung Ensemble taken from their Vol 13 of the Bach Cantatas. They use some fine instrumental support. Just listen and enjoy.
