Going Beyond Words host, Stan Schmidt has prepared program on ACDA Radio and ChoralNet and exhibits two new CD’s one on the Ondine Label featuring the music of Pēteris Vasks called “Laudate Dominum” presenting the Latvian Radio Choir and Sinfonietta of Riga under the Baton of Sigvards Kḻava. There are five compositions written between 2013 to 2016. Stan introduces a work first premiered at the annual international Sacred Music Festival, Organized by the state choir of Latvia. The text is a daily prayer of Swiss Hermit and mystic Brother Klaus (real name Nicholas Flue) 1417-1487…some 600 years ago. Mr. Vasks was so moved by its poetry and overcome by a desire to set it to music:
Mein Herr und Mein Gott….My Lord and My God, take from me everything that distances me from you….My Lord and My God, give me everything that brings me closer to you ….My Lord and My God, detach me from myself to give my all to you. Just one of the masterful compositions on the disc……Then you will enjoy recalling an 1887 work by Antonín Dvořák recorded by the folks from Naxos records….His Mass in D, Op. 86…four magnificent soloists along with the Orfeón Pamplonés Chorus with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra all musicians are from Spain and they are guided in their quest of this music by Antoni Wit. It is marvelous music and performed with artistic understanding
