Going Beyond Words host, Stan Schmidt has prepared an enjoyable program taking you into 2018 on ACDA Radio and ChoralNet with a little light Jazz, two English Folk Songs, A Winter Classic by John Rutter and a Royal Welcome for King James II by Henry Purcell. You will hear a jazz arrangement by Bob Chilcott of “Scarborough Fair” and performed by Matthew Berry and his ensemble Commotio…taken from a great CD called Bob Chilcott “All Good Things’ Then the broadcast focuses on a work by John Rutter that has proven to be one of his classic collections about Winter….It goes by the title “When Icicles Hang” which includes his famous “Blow, Blow Thou Winter Wind”….. Then recorded in the same year 1991, you will hear two selections from the Swingle Singers…”The Drunken Sailor” and “Danny Boy”….based on the them of Going Beyond Words, “The Londonderry air”……To complete this first show of 2018 you will hear a new recording by The Sixteen…. “Welcome Song: Ye Tuneful Muses Raise Your Heads” composed in 1686 a work that turned the career of Henry Purcell….
