This week, Going Beyond Words and ACDA Radio/ChoralNet is visited by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and some voices from Broadway, and the Metropolitan Opera to tell the dramatic story about the struggle faced by George Fredric Handel as he began writing “Messiah”. Laura Osnes, Soprano offers The Secret of Christmas from the film Say One for Me, a voice you will really gather in. At the heart of the broadcast is the drama titled “For Unto Us – The Story of Messiah” written by David Warner. Narrator for the story is British Actor Martin Jarvis along with four distinguished soloists from the Met…. Erin Morley, Soprano; Tamara Mumford, Alto; Ben Bliss, Tenor and Tyler Simpson, Bass. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square are lead by Mack Wilberg…….This drama was part of a Christmas eve telecast in 2016 and I thank Mr. Wilberg for allowing us to play the audio on Going Beyond words……Other music is Noël Nouvelet offered by the Playfords from Germany. Noel! This is the Salutation of the Angel Gabriel by Canadian Composer Jon Washburn from his Marvelous work “Noel Sing we!”; Rejoice and Me Merry” by John Rutter; the First movement of BWV 140 Wachet Auf; and a setting of What Sweeter Music from the pen of Michael Fink written in 1970. You listen, you decide…..It’s worth the time and singable.
