Thanks for listening to our U.S. broadcast premiere last week. If you missed it, look for the Going Beyond Words post for August 30 and relive Oratorium Nativitatis by Damijan Močnik.
Next for your listening interest, Stan Schmidt, host for Going Beyond Words on ACDA Radio and ChoralNet, adds another show to stretch your thinking. The two groups on stage are the National Lutheran Choir, directed by David Cherwien, with selections from their new CDs entitled The Caged Bird Sings, with both folk and composed melodies about members of our human society who have been oppressed. The first half of the broadcast concludes with The Caged Bird from a set of songs entitled “Winging Wildly” by Kirke Mechem. Then the stunning sound of Conspirare guided by Craig Hella Johnson presents works from their CD Pablo Neruda: The Poet Sings. Your ears will be engaged with writings from Chilean Poet Pablo Neruda set to music by Donald Grantham with his moving “La canción desesperado” (Song of Despair). All in all you should find these selections first rate and the singing a musical inspiration.
